My name is Claire Chorlton and I work as an associate Speech and Language Therapist with Amy on a full time basis. I really enjoy having the opportunity to work with children face to face, getting to know them and their families and supporting Parents to support their children with their communication development.
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1996 from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Language Sciences and worked for the NHS, specialising in Autism, from then until 2010.
I then left the NHS to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in an independent school for children with complex needs and/or a diagnosis of Autism. I worked there for 8 years which gave me the opportunity to get to know the pupils really well and to really develop my therapeutic skills through working with them on a regular basis and being part of their team. I was able to join the pupils in functional activities on and off site and I supported the curriculum by running communication groups. I also had the opportunity to work closely with other professionals in the team and to learn more about their roles and the strategies that they use in therapy.
I then returned to working in the NHS and have recently specialised in working with pre-school and younger school aged children with complex needs, social communication differences and autism.
I have continued my training throughout my career and, amongst other things, have attended PECS training and follow up sessions, Intensive interaction, Advanced Practitioner training for Attention Autism and the Curiosity programme with Gina Davies, TEACCH and SCERTS training and Social Thinking training. I am keen to continue my professional development and am currently focussing on Gestalt Language Processing as an area of development.
I am available to work in South Lincolnshire and Peterborough area.
I look forward to working with you.
